Fox is Bright Light at JES

Marissa Fox, SPED teacher at Johnston Elementary was recently honored as the district wide winner of the Bright Light award. The award is present annually to the special education teacher who exhibits outstanding skills and qualities related to their profession. Jerrilynn Harmon, Director of Office of Exceptional Children, made the presentation to Mrs. Fox during the school’s faculty meeting. She stated, “Marissa goes above and beyond without being asked. She always meets her deadlines and does her job extremely well.”

Mrs. Fox is beginning her third year at JES where she came after graduating from Columbia College in just three years. When asked why she chose to be a SPED teacher, she shared, “It’s a challenge that changes every day. Despite the day to day challenges, the reward at the end of the day is seeing growth, if not academically then personally. I feel as if I’m making the world a better place.”
