Johnston Elementary 1st and 2nd graders along with their teachers and chaperones participated in one of the two annual Education Days hosted by the Augusta GreenJackets at SRP Park. Students of all ages are invited to experience an out of class learning environment designed specifically for them.
Not only did the students watch the GreenJackets play the Greensboro Grass Hoppers, they also participated in activities on the baseball field between innings. Games such as Tug of War, Spin on the Bat, Roll the Tire, Air Guitar Picking, and a Dance Off, were just a few of the fun activities from which the students could choose.
Lessons covering math/science related to baseball were sent to the teachers prior to the game so they could prepare the students for the day. Sarah Dampier, 2nd grade teacher and field trip coordinator, was very complimentary of the GreenJackets organization, “The lesson plans provided by the GreenJackets were very helpful in incorporating math/science skills in a fun setting. I think the students will be able to use many of the skills in their everyday life. Our students loved the entire day. It was the first ‘big’ trip for many of them.”
